![]() Counselor Ms. Sawamura A warm welcome to all our students and families. I look forward to meeting you this year as the new K-5 Counselor at AISG. Before coming to Guangzhou, I have spent three fulfilling years as the Guidance Counselor at Seisen International School, Tokyo, which is also a PYP and IB school. I started as the counselor for Kindergarten through Grade 12. In my second year, I had the opportunity to focus on K-6, and implement a more comprehensive guidance program in the Elementary division. My role as a counselor at AISG includes providing counseling for academic, emotional and social needs. I assist new students and departing ones with their transitions and address Third Culture issues that are common among international school communities. I also provide students with strategies on how to build healthy relationships, make personal choices and resolve conflicts through stand-alone lessons and integration into the Unit of Inquiries. I'm always amazed to see how students grow so remarkably over the course of the school year. I believe it is the strength of a PYP school that the entire school community builds on the learner's profile and attitudes; encouraging students to be open-minded, reflective, caring, empathetic and communicators. The students' learning multiply as they inquire and 'own' their knowledge and then share it with others around them. This school year, I look forward to collaborating with the faculty, staff and parents to enhance our students' learning as a PYP school. I am a Chinese-Japanese born and raised in Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore; and I received my education in the U.S. I am hopeful that my language abilities and multicultural sensitivity will help me relate to the needs of students and families at AISG. I truly enjoy working with students and I welcome parents to contact me if they have concerns, big or small. I am very excited about living in China for the first time in my life with my husband, son and daughter who are both in Middle School. I look forward to having a great school year with all of you.
