PYP Introduction

AISG has been authorized to implement the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) since 2004. The PYP draws from research and best practice from educational systems around the world to create an educational framework for all children. The PYP is committed to structured, purposeful inquiry which engages students actively in their own learning to promote the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside.

At grades K-5, students study six units of inquiry (four units at preschool) and develop an understanding of concepts, knowledge and attitudes. It is through these inquiries that students take action and develop social, communication, thinking, research and self-management skills. The AISG Programme of Inquiry (POI) contributes to a coherent and well-articulated program throughout the Elementary School.

All children are active participants in their own learning and set personal academic and social goals with guidance. This is achieved through inquiry based learning experiences, the practice of regular reflection and student-led conferences.

The PYP encourages international-mindedness in all students as they become compassionate and lifelong learners. International-mindedness is developed as students are provided opportunities to be inquirers, thinkers, communicators, knowledgeable, risk-takers, principled, caring, open-minded, balanced and reflective.

At AISG we live the learner profile. To learn more about the PYP, please browse the website links, attend one of the principal's coffee meetings, or speak with your child's teacher, the PYP coordinator or an administrator.
