The AISG Board of Governors has been authorized by the Articles of Association and the By-Laws to govern the school. The main functions of the school board are to hire a Director to oversee the day-to-day running of the school; create, approve and maintain policy; and see that the school is adequately financed to carry out its stated mission and objectives.

There are seven members of the Board of Governors. Four are elected from members of the AISG Parents' Association. They are elected for two year terms at the spring meeting of the Parent's Association. Membership in the latter is automatically conferred on the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the school. Three members are appointed: one by the US Consul, one by the other Consuls in Guangzhou and one by the Corporate Council.

Board meetings are held monthly. Meetings take place on the Elementary Campus on Er Sha Island and members of the association are invited to attend. Agendas are published in the weekly bulletin the week before the meeting, and the minutes are distributed to parents and archived on our Intranet site Copies of the School Board Policy Manual, including the Articles of Association and the By-Laws, are also available for review by association members in the library.
