American International School of Guangzhou

Overview

High School OfficeHigh School OfficeOur High School, located at Science Park, offers an American-style education with an international curriculum designed to prepare students for entrance into college or university. All AISG graduates earn a minimum of an American secondary school diploma, by successfully earning 25 credits over four years.

An AISG diploma indicates success in a rigorous, four year college preparatory program, accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). High school courses include a range of challenging, sequential, single year courses. Students in Grades 11 and 12 also have the opportunity to pursue the two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). Students entering grade 11 may also select a combination of two year IB courses and one year non-IB courses.

Students and their families decide whether or not to participate in the IBDP in consultation with the High School Counselors and the IB Diploma Coordinator. The challenging two-year program is academically broad, and also includes a mandatory Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge course, and extracurricular Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) component. The IB Diploma is recognized by the world’s top universities as an excellent preparation for tertiary education.

Outside the classroom, AISG High School offers a wide range of After-School Activities in four broad categories: Academic (e.g. Model United Nations, Math Club, etc.), Creative (e.g. musical production, jazz ensemble, etc.), Active (e.g. competitive and non-competitive sports teams, yoga, etc.) and Service (e.g. Roots and Shoots, Habitat for Humanity, etc.). The emphasis is on meaningful participation. Students are encouraged to try new pursuits, especially in Grades 9 and 10, and eventually to seek positions of responsibility (e.g. team captain, activity leader).
