About AISG

Dr. Bernadette P. CarmodyDr. Bernadette P. CarmodyWelcome to AISG!

Thank you for your interest in the American International School of Guangzhou. As you navigate this website, I am confident that you will see that each division within the school provides students with numerous opportunities, inside and outside of the classroom, to meet their developmental needs. More importantly, I hope you get the sense of the heart of AISG, for we believe it is what sets it apart from other schools and makes it such a fabulous environment for learning.

AISG is a warm, supportive environment created by faculty and staff who believe that students should feel cared for and nurtured. Given a choice, who wouldn't want to be in a happy environment where people are cheerful doing what they do? Without doubt, the positive morale throughout the school is one of its greatest assets. Common sense tells us that it is just better to be around others who are content and satisfied, as they create a wonderful sense of comfort and encouragement. Research tells us that in a school, this is critical to maximize student learning. I find the theory compelling. The positive social interactions between adults and students, and amongst students themselves, positively influence students' brains, promoting better learning and better behavior. The heart of AISG is what makes it a place of genuine student learning where students can, and do, thrive.

AISG is an independent coeducational day school offering a full educational program from Preschool to Grade 12, divided between Preschool, Elementary School (Kindergarten to Grade 5), Middle School (Grades 6 to 8) and High School (Grades 9 to 12). The 180-day academic year comprises two semesters, from mid-August to early June. Our Welcome brochure, available to you at this link, will provide you with a comprehensive overview of what AISG has to offer your student.

We value open and clear communication so do not hesitate to contact us to answer any questions that you may have. We'd be only too happy to share more about our school with you.

Kind regards,
Dr. Bernadette P. Carmody
