AISG Student Voices: Finding Your Voice
Alex, a recent AISG graduate now studying at a leading university in the Netherlands, arrived at AISG as a wide-eyed eighth grader with an endless list of passions. From sports and Model United Nations to hands-on science labs, he wanted to explore it all. But with so many interests pulling him in different directions, the biggest challenge was deciding which path to follow.
When Alex first started high school, everything interested him. “I wanted to become a million different things when I grew up,” he recalls. That’s when AISG gave him the space and support to explore and discover his direction.
Impact in Learning
Through Model United Nations, Alex gained more than public speaking and research skills.
“The biggest thing I learned is independence. Teachers brief you, but the rest is up to you. That experience really lets you discover how you want to do things. There’s not one set way to become good — you have to find your own pathway.”
His teachers recognized that curiosity early and encouraged him to try everything, and take every opportunity before narrowing his focus, turning that “million things” feeling into an advantage rather than a stress point.
Impact Beyond Graduation
A turning point came when his IB Biology teacher encouraged him to join a social practice program. Through a week-long biotech internship, Alex discovered how real-world science connects with classroom learning.
That experience ultimately guided Alex toward his current university studies in the Netherlands, where he’s now pursuing a science major with research opportunities inspired by those first AISG lab discoveries.
The Role of Community
What stood out most to Alex was not just the academics, but the culture:
The AISG Impact
For caregivers, Alex’s journey, from an eager new student with too many dreams to a confident graduate studying in Europe, is proof of what happens when a school listens and empowers students to explore. With the right mentorship and opportunities, curiosity turns into a pathway, and a direction into impact that extends far beyond graduation.
