Apply To AISG

Students walking together

We are delighted you are considering applying to the American International School of Guangzhou.

AISG is highly invested in admitting new families and students who believe in our culture of community, academic rigor, and whole-child development.

We understand moving to a new school can be a big step not just for students, but also for families. We welcome applications throughout the school year, being fully aware that occasionally a family's move to Guangzhou is unexpected and can happen in a short space of time.

PLEASE NOTE: AISG is an international school for foreign passport holders. In addition to different nationalities, students holding Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan passports are eligible. People's Republic of China passports are not eligible, per Chinese law.

Our student-centered approach leverages technology and provides creative and differentiated learning opportunities to ensure all learners achieve personal excellence.Dr. Bernadette Carmody,
Director of AISG

PLEASE NOTE: AISG is presently only accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year.

1. Prepare

It is highly important that you follow these two steps prior to applying, so the Admissions Office can process your submission and provide you with a response as soon as possible:

Step 1
Please review and understand AISG's Grade Placement Guide. This states the typical placements the school makes, relative to your child’s age.

Step 2
Next, it is important to prepare and complete the Required Documents to ensure that you provide correct information and experience no delay or denial in the admissions process. Again, we highly recommend that you prepare these documents prior to applying.

2. Apply

Once you have reviewed and prepared the above information, we invite you to submit an online application form. The Admissions Office will stay in regular contact with you throughout the process and provide you with updates on the progress of your application.

Once AISG has received a complete application, the Admissions Office, principal and counselors of the relevant grade level will review the application and determine the best placement for your child.

Learning Support

The overall goal of AISG's Learning Support program, which is offered across all three divisions of Elementary, Middle and High School, is that with accommodations and available support services, students meet grade level standards.

A 'least restrictive environment' is preferred, with Learning Support ideally being offered in the general education classroom. If necessary, students will receive specific skill instruction in the Learning Support classroom individually or in small groups; the latter being preferred and particularly effective for our Middle and High School students.

Each student in the learning support program has a Student Learning Plan that includes goals, services, and helpful accommodations.

It is important to note, however, that while this program exists, AISG's Learning Support program has limited resources for supporting students with learning differences.

Our goal is to act in the best interests of every child and as such, if your child has received or is currently receiving learning services of any kind (i.e. learning or behavior support, speech or occupational therapy, etc.) we strongly encourage you to submit all support plans, IEPs, speech/language or occupational therapy reports, medical or special needs evaluations and/or psych-educational reports.

As AISG Learning Support services are limited, we want to ensure in advance that we are able to support the needs of your child for their ongoing development and happiness during their time at AISG.

4. Response

Upon making a final decision in determining your child's placement, the school will then inform you of the outcome and next steps of joining the AISG community.

Seat Assignment

AISG begins offering seats to successful applicants in early April. The Admissions Office continuously monitors seat availability throughout the year and notifies families in a timely manner of the possibility of joining the AISG community. In order to maximize enrollment opportunities we encourage all families to apply for admission at their earliest convenience.

Waitlist

If your child qualifies for admissions, and there are no seats available in the grade level or program, they will be placed on the school's waitlist. As seats become available during the school year, we will offer them to students on the waitlist according to our admissions criteria. You must submit your application and your child must qualify for admission to the school before your child can be placed on the waitlist.

If AISG is unable to offer waitlisted students a position for the academic year applied for, a new application must be submitted for the following school year along with updated supporting documents and a non-refundable application processing fee.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
