AISG’s First MYP Arts Festival
We hosted our first ever MYP Arts Festival over two nights last week to great success! The aim was to celebrate all the artistic talents of our students from Grades 6 to 10, featuring a visual arts exhibition and performances from our music and theater students.

The first night featured performances from our strings and band students! String performances included music from Strings Emergent, Strings Intermediate, LS Honor Orchestra, Grade 8 Strings, and US Strings. They played both classical and contemporary pieces such as “Brandenburg Concerto No. 3” by J.S. Bach, French folk songs, and “Yesterday” by the Beatles.

Next up were our Band students, which included performances from Rock Band, Band Emergent, Band Intermediate, US Band, and the Combined US and Grade 8 Band. Students played some of their favorite pieces they’ve been learning and practicing during class including “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Modest Mussorgsky, “A Night in Tunisia” by Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Paparelli, and “Star Wars Saga” by John Williams.

The next night featured performances from our theater, guitar, and choir students. Grade 8 students were up first, performing a piece of devised theater called “Casting Call.” Afterwards, our Grade 9 and 10 Performance Theater students performed a piece titled “Flash Mob.” Next up, our guitar students took to the stage and performed two pieces they’ve been learning: “If You” and “Twilight” by Oshio Kotaro.

Our choirs were up next, captivating us with their beautiful voices. The Combined Secondary Choirs, Emergent Choirs, Intermediate Choirs, LS honor Choirs, Grade 8 Choirs, and US Choirs performed some of our favorite classics such as “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, “Seasons of Love” from the musical Rent, and “One Call Away” by Charlie Puth.

During both evenings we celebrated our visual art students’ works with an exhibition in the lobby. Paintings, drawings, sculptures, and more were on display for everyone to view and enjoy.

In conclusion, our first MYP Arts Festival was a fantastic celebration of the artistic talents within our school! Our students really showcased their creativity during the festival, which highlighted the importance of arts education in fostering well-rounded individuals. We are proud of our students and look forward to more opportunities to celebrate their artistic journeys in the future!
