A huge congratulations to the Class of 2023 for receiving their International Baccalaureate® Diploma Programme (IBDP) results and completing this rigorous and demanding academic achievement. This class was the first to sit through all their exams in each subject with no amendments due to the impact of COVID within China since 2019. This is also the first graduating class that had their entire Upper Secondary career impacted and disrupted by the global pandemic.

Despite the pandemic's impact, the school's IBDP results outperformed the world average at every level. The average score of 34 surpassed the world average of 30.24, the overall pass rate of 91% was higher than the world average of 79.67%, and the mean exam score of 5.33 was superior to the world average of 4.83. Full diploma candidates achieved remarkable results, including 42 as their highest score, 26% earning a bilingual diploma, and 22 scoring an impressive 35 points or higher.

For AISG, success is not solely defined by high grades and test scores. As Director Mr. Kevin Baker explains, "for the American International School of Guangzhou, we measure success by the skills and dispositions that each student develops as part of their diploma journey. This is why AISG operates an inclusive IBDP program that encourages and invites all students to undertake this challenge, either as a full IBDP student or to take individual IB courses, as we know that the life skills that each student will learn from these rigorous courses will prepare them to be successful in the future! We are so proud of what our students have accomplished and the strong foundation they have established for their bright futures!"

Our IBDP Coordinator, Mr. John Kennett said, "55 of the 63 members of the Class of 2023 undertook the full IB diploma program. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students that they once again strongly outperformed the world average in their IBDP results. AISG students continued to perform 11% above the world average in both the Class of 2022 and Class of 2023! The fact that over 25% of our students received a bilingual diploma also shows the diversity of our community. There were excellent results for students across all of the pathways we offer at AISG, and I am immensely proud of the results achieved."

With AISG on its way to becoming an IB Continuum school by recently becoming a Candidate School for the MYP Programme (Grades 6-10) to the already well-established PYP (Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5) and DP (Grades 11-12) Programmes, our students understand the IB learner profile from a very young age. As they venture on to their next learning journey, their IB training will equip them to make a positive impact in their future local, national, and global communities.
