AISG Secondary Spring Concerts
Last week, our Secondary students held their Spring Concerts in our state-of-the-art theater to showcase the talents and pieces they’ve been practicing and perfecting over the past few months. It was an extra special evening, as we were able to welcome back caregivers onto campus to attend the event for the first time since 2021!

Throughout both nights, students from each ensemble introduced the pieces they’ll be playing. They discussed the meanings of the pieces as well as how they tie in with the musical techniques they’ve been learning in class such as intonation, rhythm, articulation, and dynamics.

First to perform on Thursday night was the Wind Ensemble, playing pieces such as “Opening Night on Broadway”, arranged by Michael Brown, and soundtrack highlights from Avengers: End Game, by Alan Silvestri. Upper Secondary String Ensemble was up next, performing renditions of themes on “The Rite of Spring” by Igor Stravinsky, and “Dance of the Yao People”, by Liu Tieshan and Mao Yuan. Lastly, the Upper Secondary Choir Ensemble took to the stage to perform pieces such as “Awaken the Music” by Greg Gilpin and “Fields of Gold” by Sting.

A special moment of the night was bringing our Grade 12 students onstage to celebrate and recognize all the hard work and dedication they have put into their music careers during their time at AISG. Each student was presented with a rose to commemorate their final concert. Lastly, Band students played a special piece dedicated to our two departing music teachers in thanks for all they’ve done for our students during their time at AISG.

On Friday, it was our Lower Secondary students’ turn to dazzle the crowd! The combined Grades 7 and 8 choir began the concert performance with singers placed strategically around the aisles of the theater! Additionally, pieces like “Danza Final from Suite La Estancia”, performed by Grade 8 Strings and “Colliding Visions”, performed by the combined Grades 7 and 8 Bands, brought additional joy and excitement to the stage as did all the participating ensembles. Grade 6 students also performed and showed off the musical skills they’ve been honing throughout the school year.

A huge shoutout to the Secondary Music team for helping our students reach their musical potential and show off their creative skills! It was a wonderful evening of music and gratitude.
