Every logo has a story as to why certain designs, colors and words were chosen to match a carefully crafted message. As we celebrate our anniversary throughout the school year with a specially designed logo, it is important to share our unique story behind AISG’s 40th anniversary logo.

 

"40 Years"

AISG has a rich heritage. Since we were founded in 1981, we have established an outstanding reputation for academic, cultural, and social contributions both locally in the Guangzhou community and globally as an international school. AISG and Guangzhou have, in many ways, grown together, both of us strengthening our brand, expanding our size, and modernizing our ways. Our anniversary logo wanted to highlight these characteristics and looked for iconic symbols that would represent our "local" and "global" contributions.

Local: As a symbol of our local contributions, we chose the Kapok flower since it is the official flower of Guangzhou and is very well known to the local community. Coincidentally, this flower was chosen as the official flower of Guangzhou in 1982, so we are equally aged as recognizable symbols of Guangzhou.

Global: As a symbol of our global contributions, we chose the famous Canton Tower for the stem of the "4". The Canton Tower is recognized around the world and is the biggest attraction in Guangzhou, standing at 600 meters, making it the second tallest tower in the world.

The "look": Yes, the style of how it "looks" is also important. A classy and distinguished look using the same colors but with softer lines was the objective to soften up our traditional AISG logo that is symmetrical with straight edges. Together, our two logos complement each other with their authentic design.

 

"Transforming Lives Together"

The slogan of our anniversary is part of our logo and the words that were chosen were deliberate. Discover why each word has a specific meaning and how it explains who we are.

Transforming: Have you ever thought about what it means to be transformed? It is more than just learning facts or doing well on an exam. To be transformed is to "make a thorough or dramatic change in form, appearance or character". A great example is seeing the transformation of a caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly! Once it becomes a butterfly, there is no going back to being a caterpillar! At AISG we see transformation occur on a daily basis as students discover the joy of inquiry learning, personal passions, and acting on their learning to serve and help others. The AISG transformation process is about the development of skills, character, and 'ways of knowing' that will ensure our students are resilient and thrive for a lifetime. Transformation also means that our students become agents of change and transformation for others through service, action, and active global citizenship.

Lives: What do you think of when you consider your children’s lives? Do you think about your hopes and dreams for your children and their future? Do you think about their minds, their health, their future career success, or about them as a whole person? At AISG, we are passionate about transforming and impacting the whole child. This means we want each student to grow and flourish academically, socially, physically, and personally. We want each of our students to be beacons of light and hope for the world through the complete life they live. A caterpillar does not only partially transform into a butterfly. Its whole being is changed! This is what AISG seeks to encourage in each of our students!

Together: As stated in our Statement of Community, being "Together" for our school means living in community. When you live in a community, you and your entire family are special members and partners of something you care for and are committed to. At AISG that means that we all agree to help the school to be even more dynamic, compassionate, and connected. It means we each actively build positive relationships inside and outside of school. We are empathic, inclusive, and unified as we proudly demonstrate our vibrant RamNation school spirit. Finally, it means that we all, this means everyone, is committed to helping each of our students to be adaptable and resilient as they aspire, achieve, and contribute to the world!

 

RamNation, the AISG family, and the city of Guangzhou are celebrating our anniversary this entire school year with our anniversary logo on full display at every event and in every possible way. We display it with pride and now that you know its full backstory, together we can truly appreciate its creation, meaning and contribution to AISG’s legacy.
