A Community of Giving

During this year’s PTA International Day, AISG High School community service organization Connect4Cancer hosted their annual hair donation event, Hair4Hope. During the successful and touching event, 42 incredible volunteers donated approximately 900 centimeters of hair.

"The hair donated this year will be given to Children with Hair Loss, an organization that creates wigs for children and adults dealing with hair loss due to cancer treatment and other hair loss conditions.” Darlene Navis, our Connect4Cancer supervisor says.

“Nine years ago, I wondered if anyone else would be willing to donate their hair with me and that first year there were eleven of us. I’m blown away by the growing number of volunteers and support from AISG students, parents, faculty, staff, and friends. AISG is truly a community of giving and I am extremely proud and honored to be a part of this International Day tradition.”

Hair4Hope not only collects hair and raises awareness about cancer, but this year over 3,000RMB was also raised during the event for the Children’s Hope Foundation. The money goes directly to funding cancer medication and treatment for underprivileged families here in Guangdong Province.

Connect4Cancer would like to give a special big thank you to the AISG PTA, Tai Wah, OnHair Salon, Wella, and Speedway for generously sponsoring the 2018-19 Hair4Hope event. And the biggest thanks and appreciation for all those who selflessly donated their hair this year.

Didn’t get a chance to donate during this year’s Hair4Hope? You still have time! We are still accepting both hair and monetary donations for the Children’s Hope Foundation until June 1, 2019.

If you are interested in giving to this meaningful cause, please contact our Science Park Campus Librarian, Ms. Darlene Navis at dknavis@aisgz.org. If you don't think your hair is long enough this year, please keep growing it! Connect4Cancer will be hosting Hair4Hope again next year!
