AISG Child Protection Awareness Month
November at AISG is our annual Child Protection Awareness Month. AISG is committed to child protection by ensuring that our students are afforded a safe and secure environment in which to grow and develop. Over the month, we provide activities and instructional sessions to help our entire community learn more about child protection.

Campus Messaging
Every year as a part of our awareness campaign, our campuses are decorated in banners and standees with messages like ‘AISG is a child safe zone’ and #AISGCares. These are great daily reminders for everyone that help build community spirit in learning about this very important topic.

Parent Education
During the month, we hosted multiple sessions for parents to learn more about Child Protection. In Elementary, our Principal, Assistant Principal, and Counselors hosted a Parent Coffee to introduce the month’s theme, talk about the many efforts AISG makes to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to share with parents how they can support their child at home in learning about “safety rules” and staying safe. In Secondary, our Director of Innovation and Technology and our Dean of Students hosted a Parent Coffee to discuss social media and child safety. Nick Thompson, a licensed clinical social worker also hosted a Parent Coffee to discuss internet safety, managing tech at home, and building healthy parent-child relationships.

Teacher Education
Our faculty also spent time during one of their Wednesday Professional Development sessions to focus on child safety. Teachers were given different scenarios and worked together in groups to come up with the best solutions to help our students feel safe at school and at home.

Second Step Program
In Elementary, our Counselors worked with our students using the Second Step Program, focusing on safety rules and inappropriate child touching. The Child Protection unit from Second Step addresses general safety, asking adults for permission, unsafe and unwanted touches, and rules about private body parts.

Self-Advocacy in Secondary
In Secondary, the subtheme of Child Protection Awareness Month was ‘Speak Up! for a Safe Community’. For our adolescent students, we aim to impart on them the importance of their voice and using it to protect themselves. Signs were put around the school with motivational messages to help spread this message.

Day of Solidarity
November 24th was Purple Up! Day, and students and faculty alike showed their passion for keeping AISG a safe space by wearing purple! During classes, students and teachers wore purple or made their Teams backgrounds purple to show support of child protection.

At AISG, our commitment to child protection includes involving the whole community in learning the best ways to protect our students and their children. As a benefit from this very educational month, we understand the importance of how we can all work together to keep AISG and our respective homes a child safe zone.
AISG is committed to the prevention of child abuse and to the protection of children in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, of which the People's Republic of China is a signatory. Click here to learn more about Child Protection.
