Meet Jojo Hung, our Senior Spotlight feature for this week! Jojo has achieved a great deal during her time at AISG, from excelling academically to participating in various performing arts activities. In this interview, Jojo shares some of her proudest accomplishments, her favorite memories, and how she overcame challenges during her time at AISG.
What are some of your proudest accomplishments at AISG?
One of my proudest accomplishments is being able to balance my academic and performing art activities. I was a member of the school choir, APAC choir, and the orchestra. I have also been part of the secondary musicals for three years, in wind ensemble for five years, and in varsity dance for one year while maintaining my academic performance. Moreover, I am really proud to have received the Performer of the Year award, as it recognizes all the hard work I have done to contribute to the performing arts at AISG.
Who influenced you the most during your time at AISG and why?
My friend Claire influenced me the most during my time at AISG. She was always supportive and motivated me to try out many different things. At the same time, she was my learning partner who pushed me to do my best at everything.

My parents also influenced me the most. They motivated me to do my best without a lot pressure, so I was able to maintain high expectations for myself and perform well at school. They also encouraged me to try different activities and clubs to navigate my interests. Moreover, they never strongly intervened in my college and career choices, they respected my opinions and views, and supported me throughout. They gave me the best they could!
Share your favorite AISG memory.
One of my best AISG memories was the APAC Dance trip to Shanghai. It was my first APAC, and I really got to meet a lot of wonderful people, build networks, and gain an understanding of what people my age are doing. I was able to have fun visiting the SAS campus and joining different social activities, such as the cruise party of the APAC choir, orchestra, and dance, and the outing our dance group had at the bund in Shanghai.
What challenges have you faced during Upper Secondary, and how have you overcome them?
During my senior year, I faced the challenge of managing my time and staying organized while also dealing with the demands of college applications, IAs, and EE. To overcome this, I created a daily schedule and set alarms for different tasks. Although there were unexpected disruptions, I remained committed to my goal and emerged more resilient.

What was the most important thing you learned while you were at AISG?
I would say that I learned to be brave and take a step outside of my comfort zone. I have always been reluctant to start my own student group and to lead others. However, I have overcome this fear and created one activity group and one GCED group. I was always afraid of public speaking, but I grasped the opportunity to speak as the Chinese emcee of the grand opening event in front of ambassadors and government officials. Therefore, at AISG, I have learned to try many new things and have gained insightful experiences.
What advice do you have for current students to make the most of their experience at AISG?
Just as I mentioned above, my advice for students is to step out of their comfort zones and try different things; surprisingly, they can gain insights they have never thought of. Don’t wait for an opportunity, create it!
What are your future career goals, and how have your AISG experiences influenced them?
My future career goal is to become a music therapist. Throughout my years at AISG, I was exposed to a plethora of intriguing knowledge that eventually helped me develop an understanding of how the world functions around us and how humans behave. Additionally, my exposure to abundant musical and performing opportunities at AISG sparked and helped me develop my musical talents as a pianist, cellist, and oboist. Lastly, the opportunity to help the community around us by initiating cultural awareness groups and GCED groups trained me to become a more empathetic and thoughtful-minded person. The knowledge, experiences, and personal qualities I have developed at AISG will undoubtedly help me thrive in my future endeavors, particularly in building a strong foundation for my future career in the music therapy field.
