Happy Birthday AISG!
Today is AISG’s 40th birthday!
On this exact day, 40 years ago, AISG opened its doors in Guangzhou. Established in 1981, AISG is the first international school in southern China, and the only and longest established not for profit international school in Guangzhou.

What began with seven students from the US Consulate in a room at the Dong Fang Hotel has now grown into a fully accredited, well-known international school with students attending from preschool through grade 12 with over 1,000 students and more than 50 nationalities across two vibrant campuses.

A lot of fun happened during our birthday celebrations. A student favorite and available on both campuses, was the large Instagram style photo frames decorated with our 40th anniversary logo and made to look like our Instagram profile. Everyone grabbed a friend or two and posed for a memorable photo. This was in addition to each campus having their own style of celebrating AISG’s birthday.

Secondary School
On the Science Park campus, every student, faculty, and staff member showed their community solidarity by joining on the grand staircase and holding a Happy Birthday banner for a group photo. This was, of course, followed by singing Happy Birthday and eating delicious cupcakes that were arranged in the formation of A-I-S-G.

Elementary School
On the Er Sha campus, AISG’s birthday was celebrated with an assembly, where everyone on campus attended. In addition to the customary singing of Happy Birthday and birthday cake shared, there was a beautiful surprise for everyone. A special performance choir sang two songs: “Look How Far We’ve Come’, a song to represent our past history and memories as well as the progress of AISG, and “The World is Waiting”, a song of our promise for the future and our responsibility to make the world a much better place.

In addition, birthday cards were given to students earlier this week for them and their families to write birthday wishes to AISG and to decorate with drawings, stickers, puffy paint, and more. These cards were hung around campus and beautifully decorated the area.

For AISG’s birthday, two memorable gifts were presented. Our music teacher, Ms. Kim Gilbertson (Ms. G.), painted a beautiful canvas of our two campuses along with notable landmarks of Guangzhou to honor the occasion. It is truly a magnificent piece of artwork! The second gift was the commitment by the Elementary School to plant 40 trees worldwide in honor of our 40 years.

Our Director Mr. Kevin Baker says, “Happy 40th Birthday AISG! 不忘初心,展望未来。We will stay true to our original mission and look forward to a bright future here at AISG!"

This was a memorable day indeed, but we will be celebrating our 40th birthday all year long so stay tuned for more exciting celebrations!
