IBDP Music Recital and Theater Solo Performances
Our Grade 11 students in IBDP Music and Grade 12 students in IBDP Theater showed off their performing arts skills during the Music Recital and Theater Solo Performances. It was a wonderful afternoon, with students and faculty attending the events to watch creativity at work!

IBDP Music
Grade 11 students in IBDP Music held their fourth and final recital of the school year, performing pieces with various instruments such as the piano, the drums, the violoncello, and the trumpet. There were both solo and duo performances, showcasing both individual strengths and collaboration.

Some of the pieces performed included “Summer”, by Joe Hisaishi, “To Rock”, by Dennis Stilke, and “Romance in E-flat”, by Leroy Ostransky. Along with their performances, students had to delve deeper to learn more about the composer and analyze the music pieces and the elements within.

IBDP Theater
The Solo Theater Performance is the last of the major assessments of the IBDP Theater course. It is a culmination of all the skills they’ve developed as creators, designers, producers, and directors. For their solo performances, students studied a theater theorist and highlighted one aspect of the theory in their performances.

One student highlighted the Polish art and theater pioneer Tadeusz Kantor, who focused on automated theater where the randomness of the movement of objects is important to the performance. Another student focused on Julie Taymor, an American director who is most well-known for directing and designing the staged adaptation of The Lion King. Lastly, one student focused on John Wright, an internationally acclaimed theater teacher and improvisation master whose focus is finding the playfulness in theater.

Congratulations to everyone for their dedication and accomplishments!
