Speaker Series: Kristel Solomon

We welcomed Kristen Solomon to AISG to host DEI workshops with our faculty, staff, caregivers, and students. Kristel is an international education consultant who specializes in fostering high-quality, inclusive education. As a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) consultant, she focuses on facilitating workshops and developing programs to promote a culture of inclusion and belonging.

Kristel worked with our faculty and staff during our full professional development day. She hosted collaborative workshops on cultural and contextual diversity, anti-bias, and sensitivity training. She focused on topics such as entitlement, social inequality, bias, privilege, ethnocentrism, and cultural relativism.

With our caregivers, she hosted two separate sessions, one on neurodiversity and one on cultural and racial identities. Her insightful sessions were designed to empower caregivers in fostering an inclusive environment that supports every learner’s unique needs and how a truly inclusive environment honors mental health, social-emotional development, and individual differences across the school and home environment.

Kristel also hosted student focus groups with Grade 4 and 5 students and with Secondary students. These sessions allowed for incredible discussion and listening between our students as they were asked about belonging at AISG and what that looked like in their classrooms. Students talked about the things they see, feel, and hear, their teachers, their assignments, their relationships, and how they promote belonging at AISG. It was inspiring to see our students’ insight about what it means to them to belong.

Kristel Solomon’s sessions align seamlessly with AISG’s mission, vision, and social vision by emphasizing our commitment to fostering an inclusive community and a sense of belonging.

By equipping faculty, staff, and caregivers with the tools and insights needed to create nurturing environments, Kristel helps us build a school culture where every individual feels valued and supported. This focus on inclusion directly reflects our dedication to ensuring that all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally in a compassionate community.
