Last week we held our Spring 2024 ASAG Bi-Annual General Meeting at the Ritz-Carlton. It was another fantastic turnout, with over 300 of our caregivers attending.
As a non-profit institution, our school is governed by the American School Association of Guangzhou (ASAG), comprised of caregivers with students currently enrolled in the school. Our nine-member board, who volunteer their time, lead ASAG, ensuring that AISG provides a world-class education to our students.
Twice a year, the Board of Governors hosts meetings exclusively for ASAG members. Caregivers play a vital role in governance and decision-making, a key benefit of being a non-profit. Moreover, all profits are reinvested in the school, benefiting our students through investments in top-tier talent, professional development, school renovations, and emergency funds.
This year, our Grade 5 students made a special appearance at the meeting! They showcased all the incredible work they did for their PYPx and gave our caregivers who didn't have a chance to attend the exhibition a chance to learn and listen from our students. The conversations were inspiring, and it was incredible to see everyone's passion for learning.
Every ASAG meeting we provide our bi-annual updates about how our funds are allocated and reinvested into the school, which is the definition of a non-profit status. Some updates this time included:
Introducing our Board members for the 2024-2025 school year
Our latest Class of 2024 university acceptances
The successful completion of our Board’s and Director’s goals
Our robust enrollment
Our record-level retention of teachers
Our MYP authorization progress
Our signature programs, such as speaker series and social practice
And more!
As a premier international school in Guangzhou, our ASAG General Meetings are a crucial aspect of being a non-profit school, providing our stakeholders with a platform to stay informed and engaged in our decision-making processes.
