RAMSMUN III: Striving for Stability

Last weekend the AISG Model United Nations club hosted its third annual conference, RAMSMUN III, at our Science Park Campus. A total of 52 delegates attended the conference, with 25 of our own students joined by 27 delegates from BASIS, ISA, and UISG.

RAMSMUN III was AISG’s second invitational conference and the RAMSMUN student secretariat team worked hard to plan for this event the entire year. It is also the third conference that our students have attended this year.

When asked about their experience, one student said, “RAMSMUN III was my first conference, and I participated with excitement and anticipation to try something new. Although I was extremely nervous in the beginning, the chairs, admin, and the delegates warmly welcomed me and allowed me to speak up. Not only do I feel I made a difference for a better world, but also feel that I took this opportunity to expand by own community by making new connections with the other participants. Overall, this was a great start to my long career in MUN, and I am looking forward to my next conference.”

The theme of this year was ‘Striving for Stability’, and delegates came together to debate current related global issues, specifically global stability post COVID-19. Issues that were discussed included ‘restricting the proliferation of nuclear weapons’ and ‘addressing malnutrition and food scarcity in LEDCs as a result of COVID-19’.

The conference was fruitful with debate among the two committees, Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) and Social, Cultural, & Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM). Out of the 6 student chairs, 3 were RAMSMUN student officers. Every student contributed and researched in advance to ensure the best state of the conference.

Another student remarked, “Three days of debate, three days of emotions, and three days of collaborating with people from other schools. RAMSMUN is nothing short of an exhilaration for me. From crafting resolutions to delivering diplomatic speeches, RAMSMUN was a great experience for me to explore the different perspectives of delegates.”

With over 4 resolutions passed and over 150 amendments submitted, all participating students were able to walk away with an unforgettable learning experience and new friendships. This conference also serves as a valuable experience for students to make friends with students from other schools. Model United Nations provides an opportunity for students to interact regardless of the nations they represent.
