That’s Guangzhou: Students Telling Community Stories
Community impact also happens through stories by noticing what’s around us and learning how to share it with others.
Through AISG’s Social Practice Program, students took part in a focused media immersion experience with That’s Guangzhou, exploring how journalism helps communities communicate, reflect, and connect.
Over the course of the week, students moved through a structured media training journey.
Each day focused on a core skill, from writing and interviewing to filming and video editing, blending essential theory with hands-on practice under professional guidance.
Students applied their learning in real-world settings, including a practice shoot at Conrad Guangzhou, where they conducted interviews, captured footage, and experienced the pace and expectations of professional media production.
By the end of the program, every student had created a publishable article or video, to be released on That’s official platform. Through this process, they experienced how journalism amplifies voices, documents everyday life, and helps communities understand themselves.
This kind of learning shows students how storytelling shapes community by informing, connecting, and giving space to different perspectives. It also helps them see how their skills can be used responsibly and meaningfully, well beyond school.
