AISG provides students, staff, and faculty with access to a variety of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) services.
This Technology Usage Policy (TUP) lets users know how AISG expects these valuable resources will be used. It applies to any device which accesses the school network or any service which the School offers, including School and personally-owned computers and other devices, such as mobile phones and tablets.
This TUP applies to all employees and students Grades 4 to 12. Elementary students in Grades K to 3 sign a revised TUP using age-appropriate language. By using the School’s hardware, software, and network or related services, users automatically agree to the terms of this TUP.
When using AISG ICT services (including computers, LAN, and wireless internet), students are expected to understand and respect the following:
1. The ICT resources at AISG are intended for educational use in an ethical, legal, and responsible manner. This applies to use on campus and off, whether accessing the resource directly or remotely from off campus. It also applies when using personal or School-owned equipment;
2. The School’s network and internet bandwidth is intended for educational use. It is a limited resource and must be shared by all users. The primary purpose for use is for academic work and must be protected;
3. Viewing or distribution of information or material that is obscene, pornographic, or derogatory to others is unacceptable and is subject to immediate and severe disciplinary action;
4. AISG reserves the right to monitor the use of all School-owned or operated ICT resources, either directly or remotely. This includes hardware, software, and services. Monitoring may be conducted to measure and confirm the use of resources within the guidelines of this TUP;
5. There is no implication of privacy regarding use of School equipment. Users requiring privacy should use alternatives located off School premises that do not involve School hardware, software, or the School network, including those School services that may be accessed remotely;
6. Users of School computers, software, network, and related services are personally responsible for respecting Chinese law with regard to accessing culturally sensitive sites;
7. No software which facilitates the illegal downloading of copyrighted material will be used on the network, even if the software itself is licensed or free. Specific examples may include UTorrent, Vuze, etc.;
8. Hacking or attempts at hacking into School services or otherwise gaining access to confidential information or files is unacceptable under the TUP;
9. Harassing, teasing, intimidating, threatening or otherwise inappropriate or hurtful actions through e-mail, chat, short message system (SMS text) web sites, and other communication channels are forms of cyber bullying and are unacceptable. This includes spamming, such as the sending of unsolicited e-mail to large numbers of recipients.
NOTE: This provision applies to all means of communication, whether hosted by the school or by another party. Violation(s) of this rule will be met with swift penalties, including expulsion;
10. Respect the privacy of students by never publishing student last names in conjunction with student photographs on any public website;
11. Protect one’s digital identity by keeping passwords confidential and changing them as prompted by the School’s network or IT staff. Passwords are not to be shared with other users;
12. Students will not install software on School-owned machines;
13. If a student wishes to install software on their machine, they must raise the request with their teacher, who will then seek the approval (in order) of the Assistant Principal, US Principal, and IT Director;
14. It is the student’s responsibility to report any illegally installed software to their teacher and the IT department, who will promptly remove the software;
15. Do not install or access any additional network hardware or infrastructure (including switches, routers, VPNs, access points, or firewalls) on campus. This applies to all physical and virtual devices;
16. Damage by the student to the School network, hardware, or data as a result of negligence or malicious, irresponsible, or careless use is the responsibility of the student. This may result in the student being charged for any damage.
